Making space for curiosity and creativity

At Fiasco, we believe in making space — not just physically, but mentally too. Space to step away from the everyday rhythm of work. To rediscover what brings us joy. To pause, take a breath, and reset.

One way we do this is through Summer Hours. An initiative we introduced in a post-lockdown world to create more room in our lives for the things that matter outside the studio. Because creativity doesn’t stop at the edges of a project brief, and curiosity doesn’t switch off at 5pm.

What are Summer Hours?

Summer Hours at Fiasco give our team an additional six Fridays off over the traditional school summer holidays. There’s no reduction in pay, no strings attached, and no pressure to be productive. Just a little extra breathing room to spend however people choose.

It might be a day in the garden, a slow Friday bike ride, or finishing that book that’s been on your bedside for six months. It’s space to unwind, recharge, and just enjoy.

Curiosity beyond the job description

Everyone at Fiasco has their “thing.” For Mike, it’s smashing out ultra marathons. For Josh, it’s making music in his studio. From woodworking and wild swimming to sourdough and skateboarding, our team is made up of curious, creative minds. And that’s no accident.

We don’t just accept outside interests. We actively celebrate them. That’s why we hire people who are passionate, multi-dimensional, and endlessly curious; because we believe those traits make our team (and our work) all the better.

Creativity beyond the brief

Creative minds and ideas don’t turn off once we leave the studio. Anyone in our industry can attest to that. The best ideas often sneak in from unexpected places: that article you read, the gig you went to, a chat with a friend, a fleeting thought mid-shower.

It’s sometimes the smallest moments that leave the biggest mark. When our team has space to follow their curiosity, those moments make their way back into the work. They bring a creative buzz of energy, spark fresh thinking, and push ideas somewhere new.

Balance has always been the point

Flexibility isn’t new to us. We’ve been running a successful flexi-time policy for years, and work-life balance has always been baked into our culture – long before we had a B Corp badge to prove it.

We know weekends and holidays aren’t always restful (just ask anyone who’s wrangled screaming children on a flight, navigated the throws of a house reno, or survived soft play on a Saturday). Sometimes, you need time that’s truly yours.

That’s why Summer Hours exist. They boost morale, make space for real rest, and help our team return refreshed and focused on Monday.

More space, more life

Life outside the Fiasco studio shapes what happens inside it. That’s why it’s so important to make space for joy, for play, and for the things that help us feel like ourselves; whether that’s rediscovering old hobbies or chasing new ideas. Those moments mean a lot to us as individuals, and as a team, we truly believe they matter.
