Located on the Riviera Maya in Mexico, Mayakoba – meaning “city on the water” – is a 1,600 acre luxury resort that was designed specifically to make the most of its natural environment. With four hotels and over thirty restaurants linked by miles of pristine white beaches and waterways, along with a PGA golf course, Mayakoba is a destination that needs to be seen to be believed.
We were brought on board to work with the team at Mayakoba to develop their branding and help them to better reflect their position as Mexico’s leading sustainable luxury destination. Mayakoba needed a creative way to visually represent the unique experience they offer.
To achieve this, we focussed on a streamlined UX and navigation for their website, as well as developing a visual style and immersive look and feel. We created a custom 3D interactive map of the resort that users can navigate around and interact with, complete with sound effects and animation in order to demonstrate both the scale and breadth of their offering. The interactive map gives users a unique and all-encompassing experience to engage with the brand.
We developed stylised 3D models of key locations found across the destination, reducing complex architecture to more simple forms and shapes. A good deal of time was spent developing textures to replicate the dense mangroves, crystal clear canals and turquoise ocean, in order to give the map a more natural look and feel.
The end result is a map of the 1600 acre resort, with over 30 unique buildings and more than a thousand trees.
The process from a speed, design and quality perspective and the teams involvement to meet our creative needs was impeccable and made this project a complete success. We are super excited about the work we all did together, we truly love our new website
