Top App releases of 2011, carefully selected by the Fiasco team

We’ve seen a lot of changes this year at Fiasco. After moving studio and expanding our team, our focus now turns to 2012 and beyond. As we look to turn our skills to App development in the new year, here’s our roundup of the most exciting paid-for and free apps released this year for the iPad and iPhone.

Contre Jour by Chillingo
First up is the gorgeous Contre Jour from Chillingo, the studio who brought you Angry Birds and Cut the Rope. As you manipulate the landscape to move your character, be careful to keep him from harm while navigating him to the end of each level. A beautiful yet haunting environment that utilizes intuitive touch screen controls and is set to a “poignant orchestral score”. A lovely addition to the current app game market.

Museum of London – Street Museum by Brothers and Sisters
Next, we’ve been astonished by the fascinating Street Museum from The Museum of London. From the very talented folks at Brothers and Sisters, this App tracks your current London location and compares modern London to the museum’s extensive photo archive for a beautiful historical comparison. Unbelievably, this app is also free to download. We’ll almost definitely be giving this a test run over Christmas.

Zeebox by Zeebox
Looking forward, the brand new app from Zeebox paves the way for the new wave of Social TV apps. Released for the iPhone yesterday, Zeebox is a clever TV app that transforms your television viewing experience by curating live conversation about programs currently being shown. From seeing tweets about your program to aggregating news channels about the subject, Zeebox gives you a communal context to what you are watching.

Whale Trail by UsTwo
Our second game of 2011 is the joyous Whale Trail by London production company UsTwo that gets you flying Willow the whale across an array of beautifully illustrated levels on this charming journey, jam packed full of rainbows and fun in the sun. With a new bolt on now available offering level stages and new characters, this will definitely be one to watch in 2012.

iMuscle by 3D4Medical
To finish we have iMuscle, an informative medical app by 3d4medical.com that explains in depth muscle groups and how best to integrate them into a workout. An invaluable tool for personal trainers as well as more personal use, this multipurpose tool allows you to create and share workouts as well as manage progress reports.
